By plane to Barcelona Airport and from there to Girona

by train (from Barcelona Sants)

Please note: There is no direct train to Girona from Barcelona airport.
First you need to go to Barcelona Sants Train Station. If you arrive at  terminal T1, you need to take the shuttle bus that connects the two terminals. From terminal T2 you can take:

  1. Express bus from Barcelona airport (Aerobús), get off at the Plaza de España stop. From Plaza de España, take the green metro line (L3, direction Zona Universitaria) and two stops later you will arrive at Sants station.

  2. Train from Barcelona airport. The entrance to the station is located in terminal T2B. It can also be reached via the stairs that lead to the departure hall. Follow the RENFE signs over a covered bridge outside the airport. The station is at the bottom of the stairs, on the other side.

From Sants Estació, there is a regional train (slower) and a high speed train (AVE).

by bus from Barcelona Airport to Girona

A bus goes direct to Girona (Sagalés airport line). In terminal T1 the bus stops at platforms 10-11-12 and in terminal T2 it stops in zone C Interurban Bus Stop.

by taxi: You can find a taxi at Barcelona airport outside the arrivals in both Terminal 1 and 2 (just follow the signs). Taxis operate 24h. Beware that Girona is nearly 100km from Barcelona and the cost of a taxi will be high.

By train

Adif Girona railway station, located in the centre of Girona city, offers regional, national, and international rail services. As well as the regular lines, Girona station is a stop on the Madrid – Zaragoza – Barcelona – French border high-speed line (AVE), one of the main transport links between Spain and the rest of Europe.

By car

The main roads to get to Girona from different parts of the State are:

  • Northeast Highway (A-2): connects Madrid with Barcelona passing through Guadalajara, Zaragoza and Lleida among many other locations. When you arrive in Barcelona you must take the AP-7 to Girona (exit 6B, Girona Oeste).

  • Northeast Highway (AP-2): between Alfajarín (province of Zaragoza) and El Vendrell (province of Tarragona). It ends up joining the AP-7. You must continue towards Barcelona and continue until Girona (exit 6B, Girona Oeste).

  • Mediterranean Highway (A-7): runs from Algeciras to Barcelona, passing through these towns: Málaga, Motril, Almería, Murcia, Orihuela, Elche, Alicante, Valencia, Castellón de la Plana, Tarragona and Barcelona. Once you arrive in Barcelona, you must take the AP-7 towards Girona (exit 6B, Girona Oeste). It is not a continuous section road but rather supplementary sections to the Mediterranean Highway or AP-7.

  • Mediterranean Highway (AP-7): connects the entire coastline along the Mediterranean Sea, from Algeciras to La Jonquera. The exit from Girona is 6B, Girona Oeste.

Girona-Costa Brava Airport

Girona-Costa Brava Airport has regular flights from cities in Europe and other parts of Spain. The airport is located about 12 km / 7 mi outside Girona, with good road connections to the city centre by car, coach or taxi. Road access into Girona city is by the N-II main road or the AP-7 motorway. At the airport there are several car hire companies, an official taxi rank, and a coach service into Girona bus station.

Aeroport de Perpinyà-Rivesaltes

Perpignan’s small airport is just 110 km / 68 mi from Girona. There is good motorway access to Girona, and several coach companies offer a regular service.
