Airport to the City Center Train Station (Barcelona Sants)

  • If arriving at Terminal 2 (T2): Walk to the airport train station and take the R2 Nord (Rodalies) commuter train toward Barcelona. Get off at Barcelona-Sants (approx. 20-minute ride).

  • If arriving at Terminal 1 (T1): Take the free shuttle bus outside the terminal to T2, then catch the R2 Nord train.

High-Speed Train to Girona

  • From Barcelona-Sants, follow the signs for High-Speed trains (AVE / AVANT).

  • Board a train to Girona. The high-speed journey takes just 38 to 40 minutes.

  • Tip: It is highly recommended to book AVE/AVANT tickets in advance via the official Renfe website to secure a seat and a lower fare, especially during peak commute hours.

  • Note: you cannot purchase high-speed train tickets (AVE or AVANT) to Girona from the standard regional ticket machines at the airport. To buy a high-speed train ticket directly at Barcelona Sants, head to the staffed ticket office and take a number from the automated machine. Wait for your number to appear on the digital screens before approaching the assigned window

The Regional Train (Regional / MD)

If attendees miss their pre-booked high-speed train or want maximum schedule flexibility without booking in advance.

  • At Barcelona Sants, purchase a ticket for the Regional / MD (Media Distancia) train to Girona.
  • These tickets cannot sell out and do not need to be booked weeks in advance. The train ride takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes.

  • Note: You can buy a combined ticket right at the airport station machine that covers both the airport line and the regional connection to Girona.
